UX Design

From June 2023 to March 2024 I attended a comprehensive course at the UX Design Institute and got certified as a UX professional, earning the professional diploma in UX design. The course covered the UX design process, usability testing, analysis of research data, information architecture, development of user flows, prototyping and handover to development.

Die Herausforderung der Weiterbildung lag darin, die The main task of the course was to use the learned UX skills to optimize the booking process of a fictional airline. The process began with comprehensive research, including benchmarking, surveys and of course usability testing, to identify pain points as well as positive interactions and industry standards on existing websites.

The data gathered then had to be analyzed. This was done in a team, by creating an affinity diagram. Using the data sorted in the diagram I then created a customer journey map to make it easier to comprehend and plan next steps.

Using the customer journey map as a reference, I began mapping out the user flow through the booking process. I started by doing this with pen and paper, and then recreated it using Miro. After optimizing the flow I began visualizing it. Again, I started with pen and paper. It took several iterations, as further ways to optimize the design presented themselves, but in the end I recreated the flow as a low-fidelity prototype.

Next, I began building an interactive prototype using Adobe XD. This led to several, repeated changes in the design until I was certain that the process had been fully optimized. Then, I prepared the prototype for development by writing a comprehensive handover for the developers.

This included detailed information about button behavior, validation of input fields, error messages, step-by-step information about details like seat selection, overlays and more.
